Paint Scraping Technique-Traci Bautista

Well, I spent some of my Christmas money on Traci Bautista's new book - Collage Unleashed. I really love her carefree attitude and style when it comes to making collage backgrounds. This particular technique is Paint Scraping.
All of these pieces use cheapo watercolor paper from Wal*Mart. These were a ton of fun and I highly recommend the book! If you would like to see directions for this technique, you can see it on the DIY Website/Craft Lab in an episode where Traci demo'd it on the show: Painted Papers: Color Scraping

Here are 2 - 8x10 inch canvas backgrounds I made with the Paint Scraping "leftovers"

  2. Hi! Can you be more specific about how did you go about using the paint scraping technique? I would like to try this on thick primed canvas using natural pigments and it would be great if you could give me some tips.

    Thanks,

  3. Hi!
To get the best tutorial on this technique, I would recommend purchasing or borrowing from the library Traci B's book.
Honestly, it is very easy. I used acrylic paints. I'm not sure what natural pigments are....?? If they are a spreadable medium, then it should work just fine.
Take a look at the link to the HGTV episode that Traci was on. She goes into detail there......
    In a nutshell:
Squirt or dab your acrylic or other medium onto the canvas and use the credit card to smooth and/or smoosh the colors around. Try to only scrape an area once. Once dry, you can add more layers of color, stamped images, glitter, and/or other "visual" goodies.
I hope this helps a little. You can email me directly if you would like more info:
